BLOOMINGTON GIRL SCOUTS
Nine Mile Service Unit

Welcome to the website for the Nine Mile Service Unit. All meetings are currently scheduled for 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church on the second Monday of the month.

Reminders

  • Friday, March 5 @ 6:30 pm: Day Camp Core Staff meeting at St. Marks UCC at 8630 Xerxes Ave S. New volunteers welcome! Call Tracy at 952-851-9767 for details.

  • Bloomington not affected by Lemon Chalet Creme Recall: Our baker, Little Brownie Bakers, discovered some inferior oil was used in a batch of lemon cookies, and they recalled the lots that contained this oil. The cookies are safe to eat, but not good enough to sell under the Girl Scout label.
If your cookie customers ask about the Lemon cookie recall, please assure them that less than 1% were affected by the recall and NONE of the recalled cookies were shipped to Bloomington. Your troop's cookie leader should have a list of the lot numbers and delivery locations affected by the recall if you need more information.

  • Continental Ballet Company
This spring the Continental Ballet is hosting Movement Mosaic, a series of world dance classes. Classes are open to all ages and skill levels--kids, teens, parents are all welcome! For more information, please call the Continental Ballet at (952) 563-8562 or visit ContinentalBallet.com.

  • Memory Walk for Alzheimer's: Saturday, September 25 at Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington.
The Memory Walk is looking for troops to act as parking attendants and cheerers. The cheerers would be at the Hyland Lake Park Reserve stationed at either the beginning of the walk route and the end of the walk route cheering people on. If any girls and adults from your troop are able to help, contact Debra J. Carlsen at 952-857-0520 or debra.carlsen@alz.org. For more information about the Memory Walk, visit www.alz.org/mnnd.

  • The U of MN Women's Gopher sports are offering several Girl Scout days/evenings.  For more information go to GopherSports Girl Scout Days.

  • Museum Adventures
Check out http://www.hclib.org/pub/info/MuseumAdventurePassFAQ.cfm for free museum passes from your local library. If you prefer the history of Bloomington, our Old Town Hall History Museum is available for tours. The Bloomington Historical Society also needs young volunteers for a variety of projects, including clean-up of local cemeteries and researching old newspapers. Another Way to Support Girl Scouts... Go Shopping!
That's right, go head and buy something -- a new CD, the latest bestseller, essentials like toothpaste or vitamins, even a computer. But first join www.iGive.com. Every time you shop at one of the over 500 name-brand stores in the Mall at iGive.com (like Amazon, JC Penney, Land's End and many more), the Girl Scout Council will receive a donation of up to 26% of each purchase you make, at no cost to you.
Remember, donating to Girl Scouts won't cost you a thing through this method. But we'll miss out on extra money to help Girls Grow Strong if you don't join. So visit iGive.com now. Membership is free and your privacy is guaranteed.

Earn Money for Council Every Time You Surf the Internet
Instead of using Google for your internet searches, use GoodSearch.com. Be sure to enter Girls Scouts - Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys in the "who do you goodsearch for" box. Each time you use this for an internet search, money is donated. Spread the word!

Horseback Riding
Council-approved stables include Bunker Park Stables in Coon Rapids -- 763-757-9445. Remember to contact the council in advance and reserve the headgear required per SafetyWise. The council is always looking for stables to add to their list! To make a recommendation or reserve your horseback riding equipment, contact Emily Burck at 763-535-4602 or emily.burck@girlscoutsrv.org.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Many hands make light work! Our goal this year is to recruit one adult from each troop to fulfill a task in the Nine Mile Service Unit. Most jobs require 2-3 hours of service at a particular point in the year.

Please work as a troop to help us meet this goal!
